Do you find yourself looking for the players on your fantasy hockey waiver wire that are going to help put you over the top? I am going to be mining through players each week who are owned in 40% or less of Yahoo leagues to help you find players that are going to help you win your Fantasy Hockey Season. Let’s mine some Gems! Time to jump into hockey!
The Forwards
Ryan Dzingel(25% owned) – I feel like Dzingel continues to go under the radar. He has chipped in 7 points so far this season, but he also regularly fills the rest of the stat sheet. Even better is that he is also contributing on the power play, although on the second unit. Keep in mind the points totals aren’t real, he won’t continue at a near point per game pace, but the rest of his game is enough to keep him on your roster, especially while he is hot.
Andreas Anthanasiou(23% owned) – This is a player that has gone under the radar because he was injured to start the year. Anthanasiou is seeing top power play time, and second-line minutes, and could see time on the top line in Detroit as well. Get him while you can, he shoots a lot and contributes some blocks and hits.
The Defensemen
Samuel Girard(22% owned) – Girard has been on the top pairing for the Avs, averaging nearly 23 minutes per night, and has also been running PP2 for the Avs. The points haven’t been there yet for him, but he is shooting enough, and he also contributes a decent amount of blocks. He is definitely a player to keep an eye on, especially if Maker struggles on the top PP, or if rookie mistakes start to add up quickly.
Justin Schultz(31% owned) – Schultz is a player you need to jump on quickly if you need any help at defense. He is playing 20+ minutes per night and is on the top power-play unit for the Penguins. He won’t be a big help if you need hits or PIM’s but his points, shots and power-play points will make a difference.
A Goalie
Ilya Samsonov(31% owned) – Every year there is a goalie that breaks out or partially breaks out that we weren’t expecting. Samsonov might be that guy this year. So far he has started 50% of the Capitals games. In those games, he has a 1.33 GAA, and a 0.933 save percentage. On top of that, the Caps haven’t just used him against the worst teams in the league, his 4 starts have been against Toronto, Colorado, Dallas, and The Islanders. All playoff teams from last year.
Good luck this week everyone! See you next week. Feel free to leave comments, or ask me questions on twitter(@andrewkdewhirst). I want to help you win! Also, check out some of our other great fantasy articles.
