So here we are, the last month or so of the season, and the Bruins are duking it out for a top spot in the Atlantic. Flashback a few months ago and that idea would’ve seemed like a pipedream. But the Bruins persevered. Maybe it was all that complaining I was doing.
The Big Bad Bruins
For the past few years, we have grown accustomed to the Bruins being a top team in the Atlantic. And that trend has continued this year. Despite all their problems, the Bruins have gone toe to toe with the NHL’s best and came out no worse for wear in 2022. Something that no one expected back in 2021.
Boston’s march through 2022 has seen the team go 27-9-3. Just an incredible run. What’s honestly even more surprising about this run is that the Bruins are doing this without the depth of say Florida, or Colordao. On paper, the Bruins should not be this good.
And it’s not just the usual of the Bruins being carried by Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron, and David Pastrňák. Every single Bruin is firing on all cylinders right now at all ends of the ice. It is going to be another exciting spring for Boston fans.
How’s The New Guy?
It has also been over a week since the Bruins picked up Hampus Lindholm. So, how has he been doing? So far I’d say he may have just been the right plug to a hole the Bruins needed to fill. The Bruins have had the offense this season, but the defense has been suspect at times.
But having Lindholm on the same pairing as Charlie McAvoy is a deadly combination. After just one week of time together, the pairing has been almost lights out. It now finally looks as though the Bruins have the offense, defense, and goaltending to be a true contender this year.
Some may argue the Bruins still lack the depth required to go the distance and the Bruins should have added more at the deadline. But with how everyone on the team has been playing, the Bruins may just have needed to make this one move.
Is There Something In The Water At TD Garden?
I always would like to point out to the Bruins’ roommates, the Celtics, have absolutely been tearing it up in 2022 and are title contenders. The two team’s seasons have almost mirrored each other. Both started off pretty mediocre, and playoffs were a big question mark. But now they are both front runners in their respective leagues.
The team’s young stars have also been absolutely stellar in this run. Whether it’s Jayson Tatum dropping 50 points or David Pastrňák scoring a natural hattrick, Boston’s young stars are just not letting teams rest. Hopefully, Rafael Devers and Mac Jones continue this trend as well because oh boy do I love it when Boston is dominant everywhere in the sports world.
Whatever the Boston Water Commission did, it clearly has been helping the B’s and C’s. And I implore them to pump whatever they are pumping at TD Garden to Fenway Park and Gillette Stadium as well. All I’m saying is that come June, Boston’s streets could be filled with Black, green, gold, and white confetti. And probably a lot of alcohol too.
