Turns out, Nick Saban doesn’t like it when his coaches leave his program and takes another position with another program. Seems like he feels a little bit betrayed when someone he expects to be with him for the following season, out of no where picks up their life and moves on to somewhere new. Josh Gattis, Saban’s co-offensive coordinator who also doubles as their wide receivers coach, goes into detail how it went down when he explained to his boss that he was going to work for Jim Harbaugh up in Michigan.

“When coach Harbaugh called, it kind of caught me off guard. I had just left a meeting with Nick Saban getting my butt chewed out for about 20 minutes telling him I was leaving and he was trying to get me to stay. It didn’t go over well. So if there was any Band-Aid to the bruise it was that (Harbaugh) phone call,” Gattis said during a conversation with Harbaugh on Harbaugh’s podcast this week. “It was exciting to hear his voice and get a chance to talk to him personally.”

Saban Should be Understanding

It seems to me that Nick Saban should be just a little bit more understanding of his young assistant for finding an opportunity that, for him, is the best move he can make for he and his family. Saban should be understanding of this because, if memory serves, Nick Saban, yes the very nick Saban that has built a dynasty and who gives all those pleasant and upbeat interviews regularly, sort of, maybe, perhaps, 100% did the same thing when reports started circulating that he was going to leave the Dolphins to become the next coach at Alabama.

Which Led Immediately to This

See Saban was just to emotional in the NFL and in the college game, we all know there are far less emotions that you need to be successful. That’s why Saban left the Dolphins after saying over and over again that he was staying. He just couldn’t handle the rigor that the pro game demands. That, and he majorly whiffed on selecting Daunte Culpepper over Drew Brees. So, I guess you can say that his emotions ran wild all over him like 90s Hulkamania after watching Culpepper deliver a breath taking 2 TD 3 INT ratio in 2006 and Brees went on to be Drew Brees.

Tickle me Mildly Satisfied

Tickle me mildly satisfied, that Nick Saban, who has everything, that has won everything and is pretty much a God down in the South, who will be vying for another national title next year regardless of how many people will write about how Nick and Bama has lost their fastball, that at least for a short while had to feel the bad college emotion of having an assistant leave him when he thought he was coming back. Though the smile to my face from result of thinking about Nick Saban inconvenienced and annoyed will only lasted a few seconds, at least for one very short moment in this world I was happier than Nick Saban.
