At the start of the new year. I had the opportunity to interview Fox Sports Wisconsin and Milwaukee Bucks Sideline Reporter, Zora Stephenson. I think the timing of this conversation could not have been better as through sharing her journey and experiences. Zora gave great insight and advice that is applicable to listeners of all ages, backgrounds, careers, etc. as they are working to achieve their resolutions for the new year and decade.

At a young age, Zora has already achieved so much. The former Elon Women’s Basketball standout in the class of 2015, has already landed a job with Fox Sports and the NBA. She is working with the 2019 Eastern Conference finalists and 2019 regular season MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks, all before the age of 30.

Zora Stephenson joined Fox Sports Wisconsin and the Bucks in September of 2019. Prior to that, she worked as a reporter with Fox 31 in Denver covering hard news stories. Always interested in transitioning into sports, with each rep. The DMV native continued to prepare herself for the day her name might be called to take the next step. As she says in the interview regarding all of the times she has been rejected for job opportunities over the years, “All it takes is one yes.” One yes to get your foot in the door. One yes to take the next step and one yes to change the landscape of your career.

From the outside looking in, her role may seem like all fun and glamour. Traveling and covering one of the best teams in the league. It is easy to assume that her job is mostly all smiles and interviews with a producer feeding her lines. However, that is far from the truth. Zora lets us in on the adversity she has overcome to get to this point in her career. The rigorous schedule of a typical day, and the grind she put in to get to this stage. As she continues to put in to stay there. She takes us behind the scenes into what it is like to work with the Bucks. As well as Fox Sports and shares a career and life advice that she has learned along her journey.

Whether you are an aspiring journalist trying to figure out how to make the next step, a student-athlete unsure of how to transition into your career, or simply interested in knowing what it is like to have a day in the life of a sideline reporter. Zora sheds light on so many nuggets of information that you can apply to you in some way.
