Sacramento Kings guard De’Aaron Fox had some choice words when asked about the All-Star Game.
It came as a surprise when the NBA announced that the All-Star game is going ahead on March 7th.
The league had originally said that a team would be named, the season would pause, but no game would be played.
This seemed like a sensible decision at the time. The United States was averaging over 200,000 new cases of COVID-19 a day when the season started on December 22nd.
While the cases per day has gone down since then to a 7-day average of 136,000+, the end is far from near.
Let’s not forget, it’s an exhibition with more olé’s than a matador at a bullfight. It’s really more of a glorified lay-up line or an extreme game of slamball, minus the body-checking of course. I’ve attached a video for the young-ins.
Which is why it’s important for players, or at least one player to question the intelligence of playing the game.
And Sacramento Kings guard De’Aaron Fox wasn’t shy about it.

Sly like a Fox
Let’s not question his iffy credentials for playing in this game. Or the fact that he’s stuck on a team that’s always searching for relevancy. A team that hasn’t had an All-Star representative since 2016-17.
He had the guts to say something and didn’t hold back.
Normally, these types of bold statements are made by the NBA’s prominent stars, like LeBron James or Chris Paul.
But LeBron has to pick his battles these days. He’s got his brand to worry about and let’s not forget about Space Jam 2.
Besides, he got all he could handle the last time he was in State Farm Arena, the site of this year’s All-Star Game.
And Chris Paul wouldn’t want to speak out against this event. An event held at an arena with his employer’s namesake attached to it.
De’Aaron Fox isn’t scheduled to appear in any movies. He does have signature shoes but definitely isn’t in insurance commercials.
He felt something in his gut and did something about it. Yes De’Aaron, playing an All-Star Game in today’s climate is stupid, kudos to you for speaking up.
I’ve always admired you for your game, now I also respect your candor.
