Today the Big3 Basketball League had its championship game in Los Angeles, at the Staples Center. The number one seed Triplets, led by Joe Johnson have been a force all season long and today the won their first title. They played against the number two seed Killer 3’s led by Stephen Jackson.
Joe Johnson Big3 On Fire
The game was somewhat in hand the whole way as the Triplets were in the lead at the half. Johnson was on fire and had put the team on his back in the first half. The Killer 3’s, led by their coach Charles Oakley, never gave up and stayed in the game all the way through.
They were led in scoring by Stephen Jackson with 19 pts and C.J Watson with eight points. But it was not enough as Joe Johnson had 28 points including the game-winning three. Alan Anderson chipped in with 11 points and 8 rebounds. The Triplets were also led by their coach Lisa Leslie. The one-time superstar of women’s basketball led the expansion Triplets to their first title in the Big3.
This was the second straight year that the championship team was led by a female coach. Last year
Nancy Lieberman won the title with Corey Maggette and the Power. Just one of the things that make the Big3 a needed Product in sports today.
Third Place Game
The day was started off with the third-place game between the 3 Headed Monsters and the
Trilogy. With 22 points and 18 rebounds, Reggie Evans took control and got the win for the 3 Headed Monsters. Rashard Lewis kicked in 18 points and 10 rebounds in the win. James White threw in 17 and six for the Trilogy.
The Big3 put on a great show in LA and had the stands filled with the casual fan and a star-studded front row. The league is good for the game. When Joe Johnson signs to play in the NBA this season, the league will show its value to the NBA. The two are a good match and The Big3 is a great game. Look forward to seeing who will show up in the league next season. Well done Ice Cube, Lisa Leslie, The Triplets and the Big3 Basketball.
